Split stag and hen do costs without chasing everyone for weeks
One person books the house, another pays for the activity, and the best man is still waiting on three transfers a month later. Tabby puts every cost in one shared tab that the whole group opens from a link. No app and no signup.
Why stag and hen do money gets awkward
- The organiser ends up paying the big deposits up front, often hundreds of pounds.
- Most groups cover the groom or bride, so a simple even split doesn't work.
- Not everyone comes for the whole weekend or does every activity.
- Half the group are people you've never met, and getting them all onto an app is a job in itself.
Covering the groom or bride, sorted
Leave them out of the split
When you add an expense, choose specific people instead of everyone. Leave the groom or bride off and their share is spread across the rest of you.
Add them to the bits they pay for
If they're chipping in for their own travel or a night out, add those expenses with them included.
Part-timers pay their part
Only coming Saturday? Only add someone to the expenses they were there for.
What to put on the tab
Accommodation
The big house, the hotel rooms or the lodge. Usually the biggest cost and the first deposit.
Activities
Go-karting, cocktail classes, paintball, a spa day or a boat party.
Food and drink
The big shop, the group meal, the rounds and the bar tab.
Travel and extras
Minibus, trains, flights, fancy dress, sashes and decorations.
How it works
-
1
The organiser opens a tab
Name it something like "Dan's stag" and pick £. You get a private link straight away.
-
2
Share it in the group chat
Everyone opens the link and picks their name. Nobody needs an account.
-
3
Add costs as they happen
Whoever pays adds it, from deposits months before to the last taxi home. Choose who each cost is for.
-
4
Settle up after
Tabby works out who owes who. Pay each other back by bank transfer and mark it settled.
A shared tab vs a kitty or a spreadsheet
A cash kitty runs dry, and a spreadsheet only works if the organiser keeps it up to date.
| Tabby | Kitty or spreadsheet | |
|---|---|---|
| Who keeps track | Everyone adds what they paid | Usually the organiser, alone |
| Covering the groom or bride | Leave them out of each cost | Manual maths |
| People who miss part of it | Only add them to what they did | More manual maths |
| Who owes who | Worked out for you | Worked out by hand |
| Accounts or apps | None | None for cash; a Google or Microsoft account to edit a sheet |
Questions
Does everyone need to download an app? +
No. Tabby runs in the browser, so anyone with the link can open it on their phone and add what they paid.
How do we split costs so the groom or bride doesn't pay? +
When you add an expense, choose specific people and leave them out. Their share is split across everyone else on that expense.
Can we add deposits paid months in advance? +
Yes. Open the tab as soon as you start booking and add each deposit with the date it was paid.
We're going abroad. Can we still split in pounds? +
Yes. Each tab uses one currency, so if you'd rather settle up in £, add expenses in pounds. You can open a tab in euros or dollars instead.
Is it free? +
Yes. No paid plan, no ads and no account.
